Troubleshooting Retail Pro

Troubleshooting Retail Pro

Rpro Tech Page

Q: I can't find a specific receipt, voucher, slip, PO, SO or TO, but I know it's there.
A: (V6, 7, 8) Reconstruct either files in the module you're working with (i.e. vouchers). If you don't reconstruct all files regularly (1-2x per month), you should reconstruct all files in this case.

Q: What is reconstructing and why do I need to do it?
A: Reconstructing is a necessary part of maintaining your retail pro data files. For most Rpro data files there is an index file (.ix) and a data file (.dat). The index file is like a lookup table for the individual records in a data file. This file speeds up Rpro's ability to find individual records (i.e. a specific receipt, voucher, etc.). This index gets corrupted over time, and that is why you need to reconstruct your files every so often.

Q: Sounds to me like this need to reconstruct is a bug?
A: No, all databases require maintenance. Many other databases require a highly skilled (and highly paid expert) to maintain them. But with Retail Pro, you can maintain your database yourself and save yourself a lot of money. If you don't know how to reconstruct, call your friendly Rpro dealer and get training. It will save you a lot of headaches and money in the future.

Q: Error on rc200310.dat

A: Update to the latest Safeguard tool.
Make sure you extract the update to the RETAIL folder. (Using Winzip, "Use Folder Names" should have a check mark).
